Advice From Police on Keeping Safe This Weekend

This weekend is expected to be one of the busiest of the year for pubs and clubs in the county and extra officers will be on duty to help people stay safe.

Police are offering the following advice:

  • Beware of rounds – If you’re in a large round you’re keeping pace with the fastest drinker. Consider being in a smaller round, alternating alcoholic drinks and soft drinks or giving rounds a miss altogether.
  • Eat up – A good meal before you go out and snacks between drinks help to slow down the absorption of alcohol and helps you stay in control.
  • Size down – Swap a pint for a half pint, or large glass of wine for a smaller one. Drinking spritzers and shandies will help you cut alcohol consumption.
  • Soften up – Alternating alcoholic drinks and soft drinks means you will drink less over the course of the evening.

Chief Inspector Steve Beard said: “This weekend is likely to be one of the busiest of the year in town centres across the county and we’ll have extra officers on to help people keep safe.

“We’re urging people to stay safe, take responsibility for the amount they drink and look after their friends. Let’s make sure everyone gets home safely.”
