Two Arrested Following Theft of Tortoise

Two arrested following theft of tortoise from Planters Garden Centre, Kingsbury, Tamworth

Officers from Coleshill Safer Neighbourhood Team attended an address in Kingsbury just after 9.00am and arrested a 42 Year Old Female and a 35 year old man after a Marginated Tortoise was stolen from Planters Garden Centre on Saturday 9th March 2019.

The Tortoise was taken after the female attended Planters at around 3.20pm when and she took the keys to the tank and removed the lock before placing the Tortoise inside her pocket and leaving with her male accomplice.

During interview the female admitted the theft but refused to tell officers what she had done with the Tortoise. The Tortoise is so small it can fit into the palm of your hand.

PC Scot Ramsell, Beat Manager for Kingsbury, said “Theft of anything is despicable but this has been compounded by the fact that its a living creature. The very fact that the female refuses to tell officers where the Tortoise is just aggravates the offence. We are now appealing for information regarding this Tortoise which we believe may be in the Tamworth area. Do you know someone who has recently acquired a small tortoise, perhaps you’ve been offered one locally? – we urge you to get in touch and return this Tortoise to the rightful owner.”

The female has been remanded in custody and the male was released on Police Bail, due to appear at Leamington Spa Magistrates court on 1st May.
